It's quite possible that most moms and those who love moms, love - or at least prefer - a Mothers Day celebration that is simple, elegant, delicious, and stress-free. Time together is what's important. So never mind if you don’t have a plan. Yet. Maybe these weekend ideas with their timeline of steps, will save the day and help you shine.
Friday:
Optional but recommended: Make reservations for brunch/lunch or even dinner in Riviera Village for Saturday (read on for restaurant suggestions).
Buy tickets online for Sunday’s Concert at the South Coast Botanical Garden.
Saturday:
In the morning, shop Jons Fresh Marketplace in Torrance, for tomorrow’s picnic food. Featured weekend specials at this amazing store are Proscuitto de Parma, cheeses, wine, chocolates and, strawberries. Call if you prefer to order prepared picnic foods (for pickup) from their outstanding Smoke House BBQ or new Market Grill. Or, skip all this and simply buy food at the picnic on Sunday.
After morning errands, treat Mom to a day at the Riviera. Riviera Village, that is. Friendly boutique merchants will love to welcome you. Enjoy extraordinary brunch/lunch at Gabi James, Turquoise, or Crème de la Crepe. For vegetarian, Zen out in Green Temple’s patio for superb dishes. Maybe Mom can select her own gift at Ribbons or, at Ten Thousand Villages for handmade world treasures (special weekend discount on scarves and jewelry through Sunday). Drop in to Desserts by Patrick and take away some exquisite gelato for a stroll down to Miramar Park or, the sand.
Sunday:
Starting at 8am, Caffe Tre Venezie in south Torrance is waiting to share an authentic Italian experience with you and yours. Enjoy Venetian-style espresso drinks served in demitasse (“half cups”), handmade pastries, and panini sandwiches. Savor this rare time together and pretend like you’re in Italy. Take away more irresistible foods if you’d like, for the concert picnic this afternoon.
Early afternoon: Get folding chairs and blankets (and picnic food/supplies) packed up. At 3pm, the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band will perform a special concert at the South Coast Botanical Garden. Picnic foods, beer, and wine are all available for purchase. A special children’s craft activity is planned, and micro-massages are offered by professional masseuses for a fee. Visit the Garden if Mom would like, and round out this beautiful, relaxing day in glorious nature.
